Another mini birthday celebration at Tap & Barrel located at Olympic Village. I was really hoping that Mr. Sunshine will shine bright since everybody wants to hangout at the patio. Yes indeed the sun was waving hello all thru the day. Went early so we can get a nice spot. Amazing view, nice weather and good set of friends. Oh well happy birthday indeed! The staff were very friendly and accommodating. They have unique specialty food and lots of cocktail or beer to choose from.

View from above lots of red huge umbrellas.

I totally love the idea they made for the dessert menu. I think this was so cute! Desserts for happy ending? well hell yeah forget the steak haha! Must snap a photo of it :)

Mojito and Caesar

I ordered the Mojito and the Caesar was my cousin in law’s choice. The reason why I love Mojito it’s because of the minty flavor on it. It feels very refreshing and light. It was a perfect mix.

Shrimp and Salmon Ceviche

We were intrigue with this appetizer so we decided to try it out. The dip have serrano, lime, jalapeno and Spanish onion with white tortilla chips. I am sorry not a fan of it. The tortilla chips were yummy and crunchy but the dip was not that tasty for me. Too watery and sour. I think there was only 2 mini salmon on it too.

Albacore Tuna Sandwich

I love trying out fusion food. I think this one was very delicious and light at the same time. A burger that you can finished without feeling bloated. It is a tuna tartare, avocado, miso mayo and craft beer buttered onion rings with crispy fries on the side. Taste like I am eating a sushi burger.

Kamei Baru

Me and my Unnies had a advance birthday celebration at Kamei Baru. A very nice and cozy Japanese restaurant who serves fusion seafood dish. They also have wide screen televisons so sports fanatic can eat and watch. They people who works here were super great, smiling faces and polite. The service was fast and on time. They never fail to ask their customers if they need something or if we are doing okay. I had a great experience celebrating my early birthday here. By the way thank you so much for giving me a cake and singing the happy birthday song. Located at Downtown.

Deep fried calamari with tartar sauce. It was fried perfectly and very crunchy flavorful coating. The squid was soft and tender. Trivia: I am  a calamari person :p

BBQ Cuttlefish

Grilled soft and saucy squid with spicy Japanese mayo. Another squid dish just because we want to try a BBQ version. I just feel in love with the sauce or basting they used on it. It was sweet with a hint of chili flavor.

image

Rainbow Carpaccio

Assorted fresh seafood sashimi. Yellowtail, Scallop, Shrimp, Salmon and Tuna. Each kind has their on sauce on it  and it was all delicious. Nice presentation too.

image

Chopped Scallop Roll

Fresh Scallop mixed with Tobiko and mayo. This was also good. My only concern was the mayo overpower the natural flavor of Scallop.

Beef Short Ribs

I love these babies. One of my favorite dish in Japanese restaurants. Thickly slices of beef with a very delicious sauce. It was very juicy and soft.

Pocky & Star Brownie Cake

image

image

I celebrated my birthday last Saturday and one of my agenda was to bake my own cake. I always wanted to make my own version of Pocky cake with a star twist. Well everybody knows I have a thing for Pocky and stars. It’s gonna be a dream birthday cake made with love. Let’s begin!

image

Ingredients:

Brownie Mini Cake

  • 1 1/4 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • a pinch of salt
  • 1/8 tsp baking powder
  • Pocky Midi Sticks
  • White Chocolate Chips
  • Star Chocolates (Wilton Molder and Yellow Candy Melt)

Chocolate Frosting

  • 1 1/3 cups confectioners sugar
  • 3 tbsp unsweetened cocoa butter
  • 3 tablespoon butter
  • 3 tbsp evaporated milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Procedures:

Chocolate Frosting

image

  • Sift together the confectioners sugar and cocoa powder.
  • In a large bowl, cream butter until smooth beat in sugar mixture alternately with evaporated milk then add vanilla. Beat until light and fluffy. If necessary, adjust consistency with more milk or sugar.

Brownie Cake

  • Preheat oven to 350F.
  • Melt the butter and add the chocolate chips. Mix until the mixture becomes smooth and silky.
  • In a separate bowl, beat together the sugar, eggs and vanilla extract. Pour the chocolate mixture and mix well.
  • Add the flour, baking powder and salt mix until well combined.
  • I used a mini round baking pan and bake the brownie batter for 20-25 minutes. Let it completely cool down before adding the chocolate frosting.

  • Frost the cake until everything is covered. Slowly add the Pocky sticks on the side of the cake looking like a cage. Make sure not to press hard to avoid the messy frosting. Wrap around a ribbon to secure the Pocky sticks.

  • Add the mold chocolate stars on the empty top of the cake. I add the white chocolate chips to cover the spaces between the stars. Looks like a glowing star. All set!

I made it mom! My ultimate dream birthday cake! I was smiling all the time and having fun when i was making it. It’s like creating a project for art class. My friends think the cake was so cute and creative to be eaten. The yellow stars shine bright on the chocolate overload cake and the white chocolate chips add twinkle on it. The brownie cake was fudgy and moist. Trust me they will rather eat all the Pocky first before the cake. Happy Birthday to me! Cheers! Stars falling down when I ate it :)

M&M’s Birthday Cake

When you say Birthday Cake it should be colorful (sprinkles), vanilla cake batter and buttercream icing. I was pretty excited to try this out. When I open the bag the sweet vanilla scent just burst out. I also notice that it only have three bright colors red, yellow and blue plus they look a little bit bigger than the ordinary milk chocolate M&M’s. Honestly I think it taste like frosting but not too sweet more on the milky side. I like it! Maybe I can use them for my baking adventures. My aunt bought this at Walmart USA. I feel like singing the song Birthday by Katy Perry :) Cheers!

  • 1 1/2 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 large egg
  •  pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder

Procedures:

  • Pre Heat oven to 350F and line twelve muffin/cupcake cups on the liners.
  • Mashed the banana and add the egg, vanilla extract and butter.
  • On a separate bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, cocoa powder and salt.
  • Combined banana mixture and dry ingredients. Do not over mix. Stir in chocolate chips.

  • Filling each cups 3/4 full and add a teaspoon of chocolate chips on top. Bake for 30 minutes or until toothpick come out clean. Muffin top should be golden. Let it cool down on a wire rack.

Chocolate overload yum! The texture was very moist and soft. It smell so good and tasty. The banana made the muffin more sweet but in a natural way. Perfect with tea/milk and serve it as a snack for the kids (don’t forget the adults). Store it in a air tight container. I hope you like the recipe. Let’s all be happy and bake to add more happiness. Cheers!
